Primitive Echoes

Bio

Rooted in New York City’s underground music scene for nearly two decades, Joe Salcedo, also known as Primitive Echoes, has been shaped and inspired by a culturally rich and diverse landscape. His approach moves across moods and textures, converging within hypnotic, driving techno sets. His musical foundations began as a bassist for metal and hardcore punk bands—an experience that continues to shape his affinity for raw, stripped-back environments, as well as a DIY approach to music-making, grounded in independent creation and control over process and output.

His notable accomplishments includes hosting Detroit techno mainstay Stacey Pullen on his former online radio show Unstruck Sounds, as well as audio editing and engineering work for Grammy Award–winning house music legend Junior Vasquez. He has also performed extensively across the United Statese in environments ranging from informal spaces to established clubs.

Behind the decks, his sets favor pitch riding and a tactile, instinct-driven approach. He crafts immersive journeys built on visceral energy, drawing listeners into hypnotic grooves and evolving soundscapes that emphasize rhythm as a communal, physical force. His focus remains on the experience itself rather than recognition and on those fleeting moments that define the culture.

At its core, his work is grounded in a belief in the dancefloor as a place of connection, where sound and movement create something immediate and human. He approaches each performance with focus and intention, crafting spaces that honor the moment, the crowd, and the music itself— He carries that ethos forward in everything he does.
